Spring Awakens: A Magical Day of Crafting, Storytelling & Celebration

29 January, 2025

Tree tickling and marshmallows at the 2025 Spring Equinox!

On March 20th, Talbot Woodland came alive with creativity, community spirit, and the magic of the Spring Equinox. Led by a talented team comprising Co-Create and local contributors, we had a joyful day of hands-on making, nature, and storytelling.

We began the day with a bird staff-making workshop, where we made willow swifts and swallows – symbols of our birds from warmer distant lands. In the afternoon, the creativity continued with woodland wand-making sessions, using twigs, herbs, pine cones and seed heads.

At 4pm, led by David McKenzie’s Northumbrian pipes, we processed through the woodland with our bird staffs to the fire circle. Children waved their handmade wands, “tickling” the trees awake after their winter slumber.

Around the fire, we gathered to hear captivating seasonal stories, told by Martin Coyne and Anna Shiels, accompanied by David’s bird song and piping. The event closed with everyone staying to toast marshmallows and play in the woods.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us. We’re now looking forward to our next event at the Summer Solstice.
