Lantern-making workshops, procession and fireside storytelling at Slades Park to mark Winter Solstice.
As the days grew shorter and the festive season approached, we came together to mark the Winter Solstice in a truly special way. The day was filled with creativity, warmth, and wonder as participants joined lantern-making workshops and fireside storytelling at Slades Park and the Talbot Woodland — a beautiful opportunity to connect, create, and celebrate the season in a magical woodland setting.
A Day of Lantern Making
We were delighted to host two lantern-making workshops, offering something for everyone:
-
Willow Lantern Workshop: Perfect for adults and children aged 10 and over, this session guided participants through the process of creating stunning willow and tissue paper lanterns.
-
Family Lantern Workshop: Designed for younger children and their carers, this fun and accessible session encouraged little hands to get creative and craft glowing masterpieces.
Both workshops took place at the Slades Park Pavilion Café and were warmly received by all who attended.
Fireside Storytelling (Free Event)
As the sun set, the magic continued. At 3:45pm, we gathered to light our lanterns, and by 4pm, we began a magical woodland procession. Guided by the gentle glow of our creations, we made our way to a cozy fireside setting, where the evening came alive with enchanting seasonal stories — a blend of original tales and cherished folk classics shared beneath the trees.
The event concluded around 5pm, but many lingered by the fire, soaking in the atmosphere and sharing marshmallows, warm drinks, and laughter.
A Night to Remember
With lanterns lit and stories shared, this Winter Solstice celebration was a truly heartwarming way to come together as a community. The glow of creativity and connection carried through the night, leaving us with beautiful memories to treasure.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. We loved celebrating the Winter Solstice with you!
