Lantern-making workshops, procession and fireside storytelling at Slades Park to mark Winter Solstice.
As the days grow shorter and the festive season approaches, we invite you to mark the Winter Solstice in a truly special way. Join us for a day of lantern-making workshops and fireside storytelling at Slades Park and the Talbot Woodland — a wonderful opportunity to come together, create something beautiful, and celebrate the season in a magical woodland setting.
A Day of Lantern Making
We’re delighted to offer two lantern-making workshops, ensuring there’s something for everyone:
- Willow Lantern Workshop (11am–1pm): Perfect for adults and children aged 10 and over, this session will guide you through creating a stunning willow and tissue paper lantern.
- Family Lantern Workshop (2:30pm–3:30pm): Designed for younger children and their carers, this fun and accessible session is ideal for little hands to get creative and craft a glowing masterpiece.
Both workshops will be held at the Slades Park Pavilion Café.
🎟️ Spaces are limited, so be sure to book your place!
Fireside Storytelling (free event)
As the sun sets, the magic continues. At 3:45pm, we’ll gather to light our lanterns and at 4pm embark on a magical woodland procession. Guided by the glow of our creations, we’ll make our way to a cozy fireside, where the evening will come alive with seasonal stories—a mix of original tales and folk classics shared among the trees.
The event will conclude around 5pm, but you’re welcome to linger by the fire and soak up the atmosphere. Feel free to bring marshmallows or other treats to toast!
Practical Information
- The storytelling takes place after dusk, so please bring a torch to enhance your lantern’s light.
- Dress warmly, wear sturdy footwear, and prepare for a primarily standing event (limited seating is available).
This event is a wonderful way to connect with the community, immerse yourself in the magic of the season, and create lasting memories with family and friends.
We look forward to celebrating the Winter Solstice with you!
